Thoothukudi Tour Package 1N/2D
Thoothukudi or Tuticorin is one of India's major commercial ports located on the Bay of Bengal's coromandel coast. Tuticorin is renowned for its pearls and fishing in earlier days. In the 7th to 9th centuries, it was controlled by Pandyas and from the 9th to the 12th centuries by Cholas. In the 16th century, the Portuguese controlled the region, the Dutch in the 17th century, and the British from the 18th century until independence.
The Kalakkad Wildlife
The Kalakkad Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the few Tiger-housed national parks in South India. Some of the other species found here are lion-tailed macaque, Nilgiri langur, bonnet macaque, langur, Nilgiri tahr, sambar, sloth bear, gaur, elephant, flying squirrel, panther, wild dog, and pangolin. Some of the things you can do over here are trekking and safari.
Tuticorin Port
The port of Tuticorin, one of India's major trading ports, is situated in Tuticorin, in the Tamil Nadu state of South India. The port today is known as the Port of V.O.Chidambaranar. It is an artificial port and therefore one of India's finest engineering wonders ever made. With its massive scale, it ranks second on the list of India's largest ports. Also, this port is the country's fourth-largest container terminal. After the Sethusamudram Shipping Canal Project, the operations and management of the port made it the Premier Port of the Country. It is most commonly linked to the Port of Singapore, which is the world's second-busiest port. On 11 July 1974, the port of V. O. Chidambaranar has declared a major port in India. The port works over the entire year. It is the third International Port in Tamil Nadu and the second All-Weather Port.
The port's location is strategically planned on India's south-eastern coast and lies close to the international east-west sea route in the Gulf of Mannar. The Port of Tuticorin is very well covered from cyclonic winds and storms, with India to its west and Sri Lanka to its southeast. It is the only port in South India that provides the United States of America and Europe with direct container services on a weekly basis.
Thiruchendur Murugan
One of South India's most revered holy places is the Thiruchendur Murugan Temple. It draws millions of devotees over the year, right on the beach of the Tuticorin District, paying homage to Lord Murugan's in-house deity, the Tamil version of Lord Kartikeya. The temple has a very interesting past rooted in the legend of the first battle of Lord Murugan, which was the intention of his birth as well. The temple hosts a variety of festivals during the year when devotees can make offerings to the deity, with the Skanda festival during October-November marking the victory in the battle of Thiruchendur being the most important and famous one. It is one of the few temples in India that have both Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva together in different forms and avatars. It is a wonder that the temple premises are never flooded - not even during the earthquake, being situated within 200 meters of the shore.
Our Lady of the Basilica of Snows
The Basilica of Our Lady of Snows is one of Tamil Nadu's most famous places of worship. It is influenced by the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome and is a shrine dedicated to St. Mary. It is a beautiful church and one of the largest in the whole of Tamil Nadu. This Church has been synonymous with stories of various miracles. It takes influences from Rome and Italian styles, rendered in European architecture. The Our Lady of Snows Festival in Tuticorin is one of the most celebrated festivals when devotees give prayers and thanks to the Saint. On August 5, every year the holy idol is borne in a golden car across the city in a procession. At that point, the Basilica itself is a spectacle.
The beach
While Tuticorin has so much more to offer than just the beach, it's still a beach town and you could miss out on the fun if you don't go to the beach. The beach is buzzing with people, both tourists and local residents, especially after sunset. There are several small vendors selling various kinds of sweets, coconut water, etc. The sunset on Tuticorin Beach is as fascinating as any other beach.
Kattabomman Memorial Fort
In memory of Freedom Fighter Veerapandiya Kattabomma Karuthayya Nayakkar (also known as Kattabomman) at the Kattabomman Memorial Fort. He was a chieftain of the 18th century who did not recognize the British East India Company's predominance and waged war against them. After being arrested, he was awarded the death penalty. At the place where he was hanged to death, the monument stands and is considered by the locals a shrine. The fort is a few kilometers away from the town.
Palace Ettaiyapuram
The Palace of Ettaiyapuram is located approximately 35 km from the main town. There are different tourist spots in the city, but the Palace is the most popular among them. The interesting part of the palace is that the dictator who actually lived in the palace is very confused. The palace has worn out greatly today, but it continues to draw a lot of tourism.
Temple of Sri Vaikuntam, Tuticorin Summary
Lord Vishnu is dedicated to the stunning temple. One of the nine sacred Vishnu Temples in India is the Srivaikuntam Temple. The temple is decorated with idols and elephant inscriptions. The temple has several buses from all over the city running to it as one of the prime religious spots.
Manapad, Summary Tuticorin
There are still some genuinely serene and mesmerizing places in a world full of famous tourist destinations that are being commercially exploited. India is no exception to this evolving tourism scenario, and the picturesque coastal village of Manapad in the state of Tamil Nadu is evidence of the presence of such relatively unexplored and untouched areas. This tiny hamlet, nestled on one side between naturally shaped dunes and enclosed
Sri Subrahmanya Tiruchendur Swami Devasthanam
The most prominent temple in Tuticorin is Tiruchendur Sri Subrahmanya Swami Devasthanam. Near the beach, the temple is situated. So you can enjoy the sea for a while after offering prayers as well.
