Jail Cellular

The prison is often referred to as Kala Pani, which in Hindi means black water, and what was the term for prison cell confinemen.
The building of the prison took place in the years 1896 and 1906, but during the late 1950s, during the time of the Sepoy mutiny, the British officers used the prison as an exile for inmates. The uprising led the British to kill a large number of Indian troops, and those who managed to survive were sent to the islands to spend the remainder of their days there.
