One of the fundamental districts of the state of Tamilnadu is Madurai. The Vast Madurai district was bifurcated into districts in 1984, namely the districts of Madurai and Dindigul. The Madurai district was subsequently bifurcated into districts, namely the Madurai and Theni districts, in 1997.
