In Tamil Nadu, Thiruvarur is the headquarters of the Tiruvarur district. Before it was turned into a district of its own, it was formerly a component of the Nagapattinam district. Adjacent to the Bay of Bengal lies Thiruvarur. It is rich in lagoons and close to the delta created by the river Cauvery's tributaries. One of the many prominent capitals of the Chola dynasty was the town of Thiruvarur, too. In times of yore, the great Kulothunga Chola ruled from this very place. Thiruvarur, a charming temple town at the tip of three rivers: the Valaiyar, Sukumar, and Odambokki Rivers, is well-known for its famous point of interest, Thyagaraja temple, one of India's vast temple complexes. Thiravarur is a place submerged in the peaceful environment of temple tanks, reservoirs, and numerous rivers, and lush greenery with agriculture holding its primary root, and an abundance of water flow.
In many respects, the Swamy temple of Arulmighu Thiyagaraja in Thiruvarur is famous. In all the Attaveeratta temples of Lord Shiva, this is the most revered and glorified one.
