The sanctuary is the home of elephants, tiger, leopard, Nilgiri tahr, gaur, spotted deer, barking deer, sambar deer, wild boar, porcupine, Nilgiri langur, lion-tailed macaque, common langur, bonnet macaque, sloth bear, grey junglefowl, smooth-coated otter and flying squirrel, sharing its borders with Srivilliputhur Grizzled Squirrel Sanctuary and Periyar Tiger Reserve in Kerala.

Suruli Falls
The Suruli Falls are famous for the 18 caves that depict 18th-century Indian rock-cut architecture. This waterfall lies approximately 47 km from Theni. In two steps, the waterfall cascades and it falls from a height of 150 ft. The water gathers into a pool and then plummets about 40 ft again. The place from which the Suruli Falls originate in Meghamalai. The beauty of this fall is sung by the Tamil poet Ilango Adigal in the epic, Silappathikaram. A hub is a region close to the drop.
A center of herbs with medicinal properties is the field close to the fall. The Suruli Velappar Temple stands about half a kilometer away from the waterfall.
