Alsi is a good source of essential fatty acids and organic acids.1 It is also a rich source of dietary fibres, protein, antioxidants, vitamins E, K, C, B1, B3, B5, and B6. Alsi is also found to be an equally good source of minerals, such as magnesium, calcium, phosphorus, iron, zinc and some amount of sodium. Alsi contains polyunsaturated fatty acids and dietary fibre and is thus considered a favourable food that helps reduce the threat of lifestyle-related diseases. Alsi lignin reduces visceral and liver fat accumulation due to a high-fat diet. It improves hypercholesterolemia, hyperinsulinemia, hyperlipidaemia and hyperleptinemia. This ability of Alsi lignin may help in preventing obesity.
